Atari Ties With Zynga On New Game
----
Atari, the interactive entertainment and licensing firm which now owns
rights to classic Atari games, and social games developer Zynga said
Thursday that the two have launched a new game called Super Bunny
Breakout. Atari said the game is an expansion of its Breakout
franchise, and will be available in both a demo version and a complete
$0.99 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch app. Atari's U.S. operations are
run out of Los Angeles, where a number of its executives reside.

PawBox Rolls Out Subscription Gift Service For Pets
----
The latest e-commerce subscription service to launch out of Southern
California? PawBox, an online gift box subscription service aimed at
pets. PawBox, which is basd in San Diego, said it will send out
monthly gift boxes with pet food, treats, and supplies for $10 a
month, to let users try out "high-end" pet products. Southern
California appears to become the home of subscription, e-commerce
products-by-mail companies, with users able to sign up for everything
from razor blades by subscription (Dollar Shave Club), to children's
clothing (Wittlebee), food (Pop Up Pantry), gifts (Quarterly), flowers
(Simply Petals), and much more.

Ceres Chief Scientific Officer Takes Advisory Role
----
Thousand Oaks-based energy crop developer Ceres, which develops
agriculutural biotechnology for the renewable fuels market, said
Tuesday that Richard Flavell, PhD., the firm's Chief Scientific
Officer, has become Chief Scientific Advisor. Flavell remains on the
company's board. The company said the new position makes Flavell a
consultant to the company. Flavell has been at Ceres since 1998.
Flavell said the move came as he turns 69. Ceres develops seeds
specifically geared towards optimizing biofuels production.

YouMail Hits Two Billion Calls
----
Irvine-based YouMail, the provider of enhanced voicemail apps and
other telecommunications services, said Thursday that it has now
answered two billion calls. The firm said it has doubled its call
volume since July of 2011, when it hit an earlier, one billion call
milestone. YouMail provides a set of enhanced voicemail services,
including personalized voicemail messages for different callers,
transcription of voicemails, voicemail recipts, and much more. The
firm says is now has 3.5 million registered users of the service.
YouMail is venture backed by VantagePoint Capital Partners, the Tech
Coast Angels, the Tech Coast Angels ACE Fund, Siemer Ventures, and
CrunchFund.

Inktank Partners With Citrix
----
Inktank, the software developer behind the open source Ceph
distributed storage project, said Thursday that it has partnered with
Citrix Sytsems to provide support for Ceph as part of Citrix
CloudPlatform. Citrix CloudPlatform is a software product,
commercially supported by Citrix, used for cloud orchestration. The
Citrix product is based on the open source Apache CloudStack software.
Financial details of the link were not disclosed. Inktank said the
integration allows Ceph to provide the primary block storage for the
Apache CloudStack and Citrix CloudPlatform. CloudStack is a set of
software that allows users to deploy and manage very large networks of
virtual machines, including those running on VMware, Oracle VM, KVM,
XenServer and Xen Cloud Platform.

RightCare Solutions Gets Funding From Domain Associates
----
San Diego-based healthcare investor Domain Associates has made an
investment in a Philadelphia provider of hospital discharge  planning
and readmission management software this week, RightCare Solutions.
RightCare said it has raised $1.72M in a Series A round, which
included both Domain Asssociates and Compass Partners. RightCare's
technology uses software-as-a-service to help reduce readmissions and
improve decisions for discharge at hospitals.

LA Clean Technology Corridor Gets Funding
----
The effort to establish a "clean technology corridor" in Los Angeles
has received $2.1M in a grant, according to the LABJ, from the
Commerce Department. The grant gives the City of Los Angeles more than
$2.1M to construct and equip the La Kretz Innovation Campus downtown.
The center will include offices, conference rooms, research
laboratories, and more. Los Angeles has been trying to establish a
"clean technology corridor" to attract companies in the industry to
locate in parts of downtown.

SpaceX Dragon Hatch Opens Ahead Of Schedule
----
The first commercial resupply mission to the International Space
Station jumped ahead of schedule Wednesday afternoon, after the hatch
to the SpaceX Dragon cargo craft was opened a day ahead of schedule,
after successful docking with the ISS earlier in the morning. NASA
said that the crew of the ISS opened up the hatch to the SpaceX Dragon
at 1:40 p.m. EDT, after they were able to speed through post-berthing
procedures. The hatch had been expected to be opened sometime today.
Among the cargo being offloaded by the crew of the ISS:
chocolate-vanilla swirl ice cream stashed in a freezer being installed
on the ISS for storing scientific experiments. SpaceX is based in
Hawthorne, and is headed by technology mogul Elon Musk.

lead scientist Douglas Bartlett. During the winter and spring of 2012 the
Deepsea Challenge Expedition with National Geographic Explorer in
Residence, James Cameron, conducted submersible and lander operations in
the New Britain Trench (down to ~8.2 km depth) and the deepest point on
Earth, the Mariana Trench (down to ~10.9 km depth). This expedition marked
the first manned mission to the Challenger Deep in more than half a
century. Dr. Douglas Bartlett served as the team's chief scientist and
microbiologist on this headline expedition in June and is currently
analyzing samples taken from this record breaking solo dive to gain
greater insight into how organisms thrive in such extreme depths of the
