The firm said the round will go towards expanding development of its product and meeting customer commitments. Transonic Combusion is venture backed by Venrock, Khosla Ventures, Rustic Canyon and Saints Capital. The Los Angeles software provider said the $3M, Series A financing round was led by GRP Partners, and also included Greycroft Partners, Aileen Lee, David Tisch, Creative Artists Agency, Brian Spaly, Mortimer Singer and Rachel Zoe Inc. NuORDER's software is used by fashion brands to manage and conduct wholesale transactions online, working with retailers on transactions. The first Silicon Beach Fest was held in June. http://digitalla.net/sbffall2012.htm Genoa Pharmaceuticals Finds $1.2M ---- San Diego-based biotechnology company Genoa Pharma announced this morning that it has raised $1.2M in a finacing round, to help advance its treatments for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Source of the seed funding was not announced. IPF is a fatal lung disease which the company says affects approximately 200,000 Americans and 135,000 Europeans. Genoa Pharmaceuticals was founded by Mark SUrber, Ph.D., who has formerly served at Mpex and Aires Pharmaceuticals. The round was led by Panorama Capital, and also included Thomas, McNerney & Partners, CMEA Capital, and Sloan Biotech Fund. The firm said the funding will go towards a Phase 3 clinical trail of its lead compound. The firm is working on a treatment for movement disorder (Chorea) due to Huntington's Disease, Tourette syndrome and tardive dyskinesia. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=46533 Boingo Expands Network In Brazil ---- Boingo, the Wi-Fi network operator, said today that it has inked a deal with a Brazilian Wi-Fi provider to extend its network in that country. The Los Angeles company said that it has tied with Linktel, the operator of a network of Wi-Fi hotspots in Brazil, to add more than 1,400 hotspots throughout Brazil. Financial details of the link were not announced. Boingo said it now has nearly 3,000 hotspots in Brazil. Boingo operates a network of Wi-Fi hotspots, managed through partnerships with other network operator, which provide unified billing and roaming access. Boingo said its wholesale partners, which include Orange France, TeliaSonera, Skype, LGU+, Korea Telecom, and Verizon, also will have access to the new hotspots. The deal also provides Linktel's customers with access to Boingo's global network. Qualcomm Labs Unveils First Incubator Companies ---- Qualcomm Labs, the incubator subsidiary of Qualcomm Technologies, has announced the first set of companies funded through its new QualcommLabs@EvoNexus program today, saying that it has funded three companies with a round of seed funding. Los Angeles startup CallFire, has been looking to drum up interest in its system in the political sector all year, as the election has ramped up--and finally has, but for the wrong reason. That reason? The errant call in Florida's Pinellas County, which told absentee voters they had until "tomorrow" to turn in their absentee ballots--but really should have been a "today". (More...) http://bit.ly/RJ89Ea Predixion Software Rolls Out Developer Edition ---- San Juan Capistrano-based Predixion Software said yesterday that it has launched a free, developer edition of its software, aimed at making it easier for developers to try out its software. The company said the free, fully functional version of its software connects into Microsoft's SharePoint, SQL Server 2012, PowerPivot 2012 and Excel 2013 software, allowing them to implement business intelligence and predictive analytics from the company. Predixion said the software can be used until organizations put the software into use in a production environment. Predixion is headed by Simon Arkell, and is backed by DFJ Frontier, Miramar Venture Partners and Palomar Ventures. Sole Society Has Experience, Backing To Disrupt Women's Fashion, Shoes ---- A new, Los Angeles startup is looking to disrupt the women's fashion market and women's shoes--and it's not who you think. Sole Society, a startup offering a personalized, high fashion shoes, has quietly been building a brand looking to disrupt the entire model of how women's fashions reach the market--and is one worth watching. The startup has some very impressive credentials, and is headed by Brett Markinson, one of the co-founders of HauteLook, and is backed by Vince Camuto, founder of fashion brand Nine West, Insight Venture Partners, and Nordstrom. According to Markinson, Sole Society spun out of a skunkworks project at HauteLook, which the company had started before its $270M acquisition by Nordstrom. Sole Society announced a line of footwear which will be available at Nordstrom retail locations in September. The site launched in June, and said in September that it was already seeing a $1M per month run rate on revenues. Sole Society is creating a hybrid model which combines a direct-to-consumer brand with links to retailers like Nordstrom, and also has the expertise and experience in both the fashion and Internet industry--and a big success in Hautelook--to make it a formidable competitor in the industry.
