Southern California Venture Investments See Big Drop In Q1
----
Venture capital investments saw a sharp drop in Q1 in Southern
California, according to the latest venture numbers from the MoneyTree
report. The report, released by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the
National Venture Capital Association over the weekend, tallied up
$534.3M invested in 81 deals in the Southern California region in Q1
of 2013, down from Q4, when there was $674.2M invested in 95 deals,
and dramatically down from the nearly $959M and 96 deals in Q1 of
2012. That's a 44 percent drop year-to-year for deals in Q1. (More...)

EdgeCast Raises $23.77M
----
Los Angeles-based content delivery network provider EdgeCast quietly
raised $23.775M sometime in the last quarter, according to numbers
released in the MoneyTree report over the weekend by
PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association.
The funding round has not yet been announced by the company. EdgeCast
recently said that it has now surpassed $100M in annual revenues.

Seechangehealth Gets $15.0M For Healthcare Plans and Technology
----
Studio City-based Seechangehealth has raised a $15.0M funding round,
from Psilos Group and Maverick Capital for its health plans and
technology geared around preventative care. The Series C investment
was actually disclosed in January, but had not been widely covered.
Seechangeheath provides health plans, administrative services,
technology, and more geared around reducing healthcare costs via
"value-based" insurance. Those plans award cash, better benefits, and
more for employees to take certain actions to improve their health;
for example, quitting smoking. The firm said the funding goes toward
market expansion, growth, and product development.

Condusiv Debuts SQL, Exchange Optimization Software
----
Burbank-based Condusiv, the developer of disk optimization software,
has set its targets on SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange, with a new
product. The firm said its new product, the V-locity Server I/O
optimization software, is designed for use on servers running SQL
Server and Microsoft Exchange. The new software helps improve storage
performance on servers, by moving around disk blocks and optimizing
access for those different applications. Condusiv saidit software
helps to optimize I/O by eliminating unnecessary I/O operations at the
operating system level, and also helps cache frequently needed data in
server memory.

DriveCam Wins Insurance Company
----
San Diego-based DriveCam, the developer of driver monitoring systems,
reported a win today with insurance group Crum & Forster. DriveCam
said that the insruance company will offer its managed services to
policyholders, as part of a loss control and safety management
service. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. DriveCam's
systems provide both driving data and video analytics, and are used
for monitoring driving fleets.

AECOM Forms Investment Fund
----
Los Angeles-based AECOM Technology, which provides professional,
technical, and other support services to companies, reported that it
has created a new $150M investment fund. AECOM said the new fund,
AECOM Global FUnd I, L.P., has offices in both New York City and Los
Angeles, and will invest in real estate and public-private projects.
The fund is aimed at financing infrastructure projects realted to the
company's business. AECOM focuses on transportation, facilities,
energy, government, utility, and other industries.

Phone.com Expands In Poway
----
Voice-over-IP phone service provider Phone.com, which is based in
Newark, New Jersey, said last week that it has expanded its presence
in San Diego, by opening up new offices in Poway. Phone.com said it
now has 25 employees working in network operations, customer support
and developing new services and features at the location. The company
also says it expects to add more employees in the facility this year
to accommodate growth. Phone.com did not say how many people it
intends to add at the location. Phone.com said the offices are next to
Tierra.net, is partner and data center provider.

PriceGrabber Updates iPhone App
----
Los Angeles-based online shopping comparison site PriceGrabber said
last week that it has upgraded its mobile shopping app for the iPhone.
 The company said it has increased the speed of access for the apps;
larger images through the app; new product pages with added details
and features; and better product searches. PriceGrabber said the app
can also scan barcodes, provides product and expert reviews, and more.
PriceGrabber provides pricing comparisons for products and services,
including electronics, cameras, TVs, and other products.
