Nativo Gets $3.5M For Native Advertising Technology
----
Los Angeles-based Nativo, the online advertising technology firm led
by Justin Choi, has raised $3.5M in a Series A funding round, the firm
announced Tuesday. The funding was led by Greycroft Partners, and also
included e.ventures and Signia Venture Partners. Nativo was formerly
known as PostRelease, and had raised $1.8M in seed funding from Signia
and angels. Nativo's technology revolves around inserting sponsored
content into the site of publishers automatically. Sponsored
content/native advertising is the technique of interspersing
information from sponsors or advertisers within a news stream or
forum--in a way that it looks and feels like editorial. The technique
has drawn some fire for making it difficult for readers to discern
between actual content and ads.

TenOneTen Ventures Emerges As SoCal's Newest Venture Capital Firm
----
Despite the level of venture capital activity in Southern California,
the region--according to informal discussions with venture capitalists
over the years--continues to suffer from a dearth of local, indigenous
capital--at least, compared with the hundreds of investors along Sand
Hill Road. Because of that, the local high tech industry here has
welcomed any and all new capital. The newest venture capital firm in
Southern California looks to be TenOneTen Ventures, a new venture firm
headed by Gil Elbaz and David Waxman. (More...)

with the constantly evolving features in search? SRCH2 announced
Tuesday that it has raised a round of funding, and launched its

----
In one of the first major updates to its service since its

Geni said the move comes as a result of two new features, Record

to its family trees. Geni was acquired by MyHeritage in November. Geni
said the move will add "significant" new detail to its family tree
service.

reminders, and more. Nimble said the feature is the first in a set of
features aimed at helping its users be more organized and productive.
Nimble is building a contact management system that helps users track
their business contacts and important activities online, much as
software like Goldmine and ACT did in the desktop age.

Jeda Networks Debuts Product

Fisker Automotive Misses Federal Loan Payment
----
In the latest in the very long running saga of the troubles for
Anaheim-based Fisker Automotive, the U.S. Deapartment of Energy
reported Monday that the hybrid auto maker failed to make a $10
million payment on a government loan. According to a report from the
Los Angeles Times, the payments were due to pay down about $192M
borrowed under the DOE's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing
Loan Program. The DOE said last week that it had already recouped $21M
in reserve account funds from Fisker Automotive, in anticipation of a
sale or bankruptcy. The U.S. government had originally committed $529M
to Fisker, but had pulled back in June of 2011 after Fisker failed to
meet milestones.

May 1, Santa Monica -- Company Culture Design for Startups. Coloft Academy.
The phrase “company culture” is getting thrown around a lot these days,
usually followed by words like “Google,” “Zappos,” “ping-pong table,”
“organic employee cafeteria” and “20% time.” But what if culture isn’t
REALLY about “perks," but is actually something much more powerful —
something that can be designed like an architect would design a building
or a landscaper would craft a beautiful backyard? This session will show
you why culture is one of the most powerful competitive advantages a
startup or small business can leverage, and why the time to start thinking
about culture is RIGHT NOW (though yesterday would be even better). See
