DreamWorks said that it will pay $33M in cash, plus pay out up to $117M if Awesomeness TV meets certain earnings targets. The acquisition is one of the fastest exits ever for a local, content-meets-online company (More...) http://bit.ly/YehBUR Fan Appz Ties Into Twitter ---- Santa Monica-based social media marketing startup Fan Appz has tied its customer feedback and social media marketing product into Twitter, to better allow brands to interact with their fans and followers, the firm has announced. The startup, which is led by Jon Siegal, said that its new Twitter features allow brands to take polls, create hashtag games, give users rewards, and more, to help them collect customer and prospect feedback. Fan Appz is developing social media software to help brands convert their followers and fans into actual customers. BYD To Open Manufacturing Facilities In Lancaster ---- Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD said yesterday, along with the City of Lancaster, that BYD is opening up two new manufacturing facilities in the city. BYD, which makes rechargeable batteries and electric vehicles, said it will open up an electric bus manufacturing facility and battery manufacturing facility in the city in the coming months. The company said the facilities will be the first in the United States for the company. BYD set up its U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles back in 2011. BYD says it purchased the former Rexhall Industries recreational vehicle manufacturing facility in Lancaster for its electric bus manufacturing operations; BYD is leveraging both the executive management of Rexhall and its current employees as part of the new factory expansion. Hyper-Therm HTC Acquired By Rolls-Royce ---- Huntington Beach-based Hyper-Therm High Temperature Composites (Hyper-Therm HTC), a producer of composite materials, has been acquired by Rolls-Royce, Rolls-Royce announced yesterday. Financail terms of the buy were not disclosed. Rolls-Royce said that Hyper-Therm HTC will become a wholly ownd subsidiary, and continue to be based in Huntington Beach. Hyper-Therm HTC's composites are being used in the aerospace industry, including use in gas turbine engines. Rolls-Royce is a major manufacturer of those jet engines. Savings.com Revamps Homepage, Rolls Responsive Design ---- In a move to better convert visitors to its site--and adapt to the increasingly mobile, tablet-centric world-- Los Angeles-based Savings.com said Wednesday that it has launched a brand new, homepage and responsive web design. According to the company, the new design and features are focused on providing higher conversion rates for its advertisers. The changes include better rendering for mobile devices and tablets, better search functionality, and new branding and design elements, according to the company. Savings.com is led by Loren Bendele. The online coupon site says that is currently is driving around $500M in sales annually for its partners.
