The Irvine-based startup also now has $2M in the bank to help it with that goal, announcing this morning that it has raised a Series A funding from GRP Partners, Fraser McCombs Capital, along with others. uParts said it is developing electronic parts procurement systems for the collision repair industry, which streamlines the identification, location, and procurement of auto parts. HitFix said its RIOT comedy channel will provide original content, video, and more covering the "lighter side of entertainment and celebrity." HitFix was co-founded by Jennifer Sargenta nd Gregory Ellwood, and offers up entertainment news and video around the movie, music, TV, and other areas. HitFix said the new channel was inspired by popular sites like Funny or Die, College Humor and The Onion. Amgen In Chinese Joint Venture ---- Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said Thursday that it is in a joint venture with Chinese company Zhejiang Beta Pharma, to commercialize the firm's Vectibix (panitumumab) product in the Chinese market. Financial arrangements of the joint venture were not announced. The two said the new JV will be named Amgen-Beta Pharmaceuticals Co., and that Zhejiang Beta Pharma will own 51 percent of the company, with Amgen owning the remaining 49 percent. Amgen's Vectibix is used to treat colorectal cancer, and was approved in the U.S. in 2006. Isis Pharmaceuticals Gets $3.5M From Biogen Idec ---- Carlsbad-based biopharmaceuticals developer Isis Pharmaceuticals reported Thursday that it has received $3.5M in a milestone payment, from Biogen Idec. The company said the payment was received as part of a Phase 2 study milestone of a treatment for infants with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Isis is collaborating with Biogen Idec to develop and potentially commercialize the compound. The two had inked a deal in January of 2012 for the development and licensing of the drug. Pintofeed Lets You Feed Your Pet, Even If You're Far Away ---- Is there anything you can't connect nowadays to your smartphone? A new, Pasadena-based startup, Pintofeed, has just raised over $50,00 in crowdfunding for its smartphone-connected pet feeder, which connects to your iPhone, Android, or Windows 8 device. Pintofeed said that its intelligent pet feeder will let users control the feeding of their pets--even if they're across the world, via its smartphone application. Pintofeed has started taking reservations for its device, which has not yet been released. The company said its software will monitor and automate your pet's feeding times; monitor your pet's actual food intake; and provide that information via Twitter and Facebook. Pintofeed did not saw when it expects to make its device available to users for purchase. AeroVironment Wins Ford For Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging ---- Monrovia, California-based electric vehicle charging developer Aerovironment has added a big new customer for its charging station installation service today: Ford Motor Company. According to AeroVironment, it will be the preferred installation partner and authorized charging station supplier for the Ford Focus Electric, C-MAX Energi and (More...) http://bit.ly/Yx7ECf RealD Expands Chinese Footprint ---- Los Angeles-based 3D movie projection technology provider RealD has expanded its footprint in China again, saying Thursday that it has inked a deal with Zhejiang Xingguang Cinema Circuit. RealD said the deal will add its technology in 50 auditoriums in China. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. RealD says it now has approximately 1,100 screens equipped with its technology in China. The company said, including screens which haven't yet been installed, it will have 2,200 screens in China committed to its technology. Receptos Flat In IPO ---- San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals developer Receptos was trading flat after its initial public offering, after pricing Wednesday night at $14.00 per share. The developer of biopharmaceuticals for treating immune and metabolic diseases priced at the low end of its estimated IPO range, which was $14.00 to $16.00 per share. The firm was trading around its open price all day. Receptos debuted this morning as RCPT on the Nasdaq Global Market. The firm's venture capital backers are ARCH Venture Partners, Flagship Ventures, Lilly Ventures Fund, Polaris Ventures, and Venrock Associates. Idealab's GoPollGo Acquired By Yahoo ---- Pasadena-based Idealab has sold another one of its companies to Yahoo: GoPollGo, a Twitter polling service which let Twitter users collect feedback from their friends and followers.
