We caught up with co-founder Dave Terry, who co-founded Chrome River with Alan Rich, to learn more about how the company has build one of the fastest growing enterprise software makers in the area, why the company raised such a big round, and why the company is seeing a big opportunity in its market. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The business provides systems integration for the healthcare market. NantHealth said it would combine its existing products with Harris' FusionFX suite of products. NantWorks said the acquisition is the largest transaction to date for NantWorks, to help it expand its global footprint. Flipagram Raises $70M For Photo, Video, and Music Sharing Apps ---- Los Angeles-based Flipagram, led by startup vetera Farhad Mohit, said late Thursday evening that it has raised $70M in a funding round, for its photo, video, and music sharing apps. The company--which is developing immunotherapy products for treating cancer, infectious diseases and inflammatory disease--said it has applied to list on the Nasdaq Global Market as NK. The IPO is being underwritten by BofA Merrill Lynch, Citigroup Global Markets Inc., Jefferies LLC and Piper Jaffray & Co. , plus MLV & Co. LLC. NantKwest is related to NantWorks via Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, who owns 62.1 percent of NantKwest, according to NantKwest's S-1 filing. Soon-Shiong took the stake in Conkwest back in December of 2014, investing $50M in a strategic funding in the company. Semtech Cuts Employees On Smartphone Weakness ---- Camarillo-based analog and mixed signal semiconductor developer Semtech said late Wednesday that it has cut its employee base by eight percent, as it looks to adjust to a decline in its revenues due to weak, Korean smartphone demand. Semtech said that the cuts mostly come from sales, general, and administrative expenses. Semtech said the cuts will save the company approximlately $20.0M in annual operating expenses. The company is taking a $3.5M charge as part of the cuts. Semtech did not give an exact headcount of jobs lost in the cuts, which will come across all of the company's locations. Omaze Gets $9M For Charity Crowdfunding ---- Los Angeles-based Omaze, the startup led by Matt Pohlson and Ryan Cummins, which helps charities and causes raise funding by offering up once-in-a-lifetime auctions involving celebrities and other opportunities, hass raised $9M in a Series A funding, the company said Wednesday. The funding was led by FirstMark Capital, and also included Michael Eisner's Tornante Company, Vayner/RSE,Dave Gilboa of Warby Parker, Dave Leyrer (Boulevard Capital), CrossCut Ventures, FFVC and Adam Press. The company's charity auctions include everything from a chance to ride a tank with Arnold Schwarzenegger, a bit role in the next Star Wars movie, to having John Legend sing at your wedding. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=65810 TrueCar Names HR Chief, Plans Recruiting Boost ---- Santa Monica-based TrueCar has named a new Chief Human Resources Officer, in an effort to bolster recruiting at the firm. TrueCar said it has named Don Robertson as Executive Vice President, People and Chief Human Resource Officer, as part of a stepped up talent search for the company. Robertson was most recently at Hewlett Packard, where had been since 2001. He also has served at GE Capital Corp., the Stanford Research Institute and The Clorox Co. TrueCar did not say how many people it is looking to hire, but it says it now has 500 employees across the US. Transaction Wireless Acquired By First Data ---- San Diego-based Transaction Wireless, the digital gift card startup backed by Mission Ventures and Okapi Ventures, has been acquired by First Data, First Data said this week. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. First Data said the buy will help it offer up a fully integrated, comprehensive physical and digital gift card program. One of the company's investors said the acquisition represented a "very nice outcome" for the founders, employees, and investors. HopSkipDrive, Uber For Kids, Gets $3.9M To Expand From LA ---- Wish there was something as convenient for Uber to tote your kids to and from all their activities? Los Angeles-based HopSkipDrive has raised $3.9M in a funding round, to provide the convenience of Uber with the trust you might give your own nanny. According to HopSkipDrive, the seed funding round was led by Upfront Ventures, and also included FirstMark Capital, Maveron, BBG Ventures, and angel investors Joanne Wilson, among others. The startup was founded by three moms, including CEO Joanne McFarland. The new service requires its drivers to pass background checks, and have at least five years of childcare experience, as parents, nannies, teachers, nurses, or other caregivers. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Spireon is owned by private equity investor Bertram Capital.
