The company did not disclose any financials, but said it saw nearly 200% growth in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2015. The company said such new customers as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Administrative Services Cooperative (Yellow Cab) taxi group have recently adopted its products. SmartDrive is led by CEO Steve Mitgang. Upfront's Suster Backs Density ---- Mark Suster of Upfront Ventures is the lead investor in a new startup, developing hardware devices to count people and track their movement in a room. According to Suster, he led a $4M funding round in Density, a developer of devices which use computer vision to help count the number of people in room or passing through a doorway. The funding round also included Jason Calacanis and Jonathan Triest of Ludlow Ventures. Density is based in San Francisco. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showdeal&id=76110 Infinite RF Holdings Buys L-Com Global Connectivity ---- Irvine-based Infinite RF Holdings, a developer of radio frequency (RF) technology and components, has acquired cable assembly, connector, and wireless networking equipment maker L-Com Global Connectivity, according to Genstar Capital, the private equity company which acquired Infinite RF Holdings in May. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. L-Com is based in North Andover, Mass., and develops cable assemblies, connectors, adapters, computer networking equipment, antennas, RF amplifiers, NEMA enclosures, and other related products. Infinite RF is a maker of RF, microwave and millimeter-wave components and assemblies. Ixia Expands Distribution Channel ---- Calabasas-based network testing equipment and software developer Ixia says it has reached a new distribution deal, with Arrow Electronics, to distribute its line of products in North America. According to Ixia, Arrow will distribute its full portfolio of solutions in North America. Arrow is one of the largest global electronic distributors, with 18,500 employees, and representing more than 100,000 OEMs and others. Ixia said the deal with Arrow allows its existing resellers to take advantage of Arrow's specialized services and expertise, along with other support tools. The Stage Fund Sets Partner In Los Angeles ---- The The Stage Fund, a investment and acquisition firm focused on acquiring turnaround companies, has tapped a longtime Southern California entrepreneur, Dan Tamkin, as a new Managing Partner in Los Angeles. According to the fund, Tamkin will be setting up a West Coast office for the fund, which is based in Denver, Colorado. Tamkin had previously served at Chief Technology Officer at Transdev, a $10 billion transportation conglomerate, and was founder and CEO of LA's Unified Dispatch, a developer of passenger information solutions for the taxi and transportation industry, which he turned around and sold to Transdev. Tamkin is also a mentor at the Techstars Mobility startup accelerator. http://www.socaltech.com/the_stage_fund_sets_partner_in_los_angeles/s-0066426.html Car Harmony Takes On Car Financing With Self Service Tool ---- Los Angeles-based online car shopping startup Car Harmony is taking on the area of auto finance today, saying it has launched a new, self service tool aimed at letting car shoppers create their own custom financing options for cars. The company said that it is partnering with auto finance provider Westlake Financial Services, which lets users adjust down payments, monthly payments, contract terms, and more on any car listed on the site--short cutting the usually long process at traditional dealerships. The company claims that the end information includes the actual sales taxes, fees, and terms on the financing, rather than just an estimate. The service is owned by Hankey Group, which owns North Hollywood Toyota, Midway Car Rental, plus Westlake Financial Services. Esri Powers Pokemon Hunting Map From Santa Monica's Pokevision ---- Redlands, California-based mapping software developer Esri said today that it is powering a new, mobile app which helps Pokemon Go players find Pokemon hot spots. According to Esri, Pokevision, a third party app developer, used its ArcGIS services to show real time locations of Pokemon hot spots, in real time. Pokevision apparently has been seeing a huge spike in demand for its service, with nearly 20 million unique users in its first five days. Pokevision is based in Santa Monica. Esri develops mapping software, heavily used in corporate GIS applications, but also now being used via APIs for many startup mapping app features. The company has been making a big outreach to the startup community in the past few years, an alternative to Google Maps and others. http://www.socaltech.com/esri_powers_pokemon_hunting_map_from_santa_monica_s_pokevision/s-0066420.html Sequenom Acquired By LabCorp For $371M ---- San Diego-based prenatal testing provider Sequenom is being acquired by Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), in a deal worth $371M, the companies said this morning. According to LabCorp, it has agreeed to pay $2.40 per share in cash for all of the outstanding shares of publicly held Sequenom, which trades as SQNM. Sequenom provides non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for reproductive health.
