The publicly held firm, which trades as ARWR on the NASDAQ, said the funding came from Orbimed, RA Capital Management, Perceptive Advisors, RTW Investments, and others. The company said the private offering was managed by Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., with Trout Capital LLC and Chardan Capital Markets LLC acting as financial advisors. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showco&id=50575 OnBoat.co Launches Boat Charter Marketplace ---- Marina Del Rey-based OnBoat.co says it has launched a new, online boat charter marketplace, aimed at connecting users with boat charters. According to OnBoat.co, it is offering up access to boat rentals in San Francisco, San Diego, Newport Beach, Miami, Cancun, with plans to expand to Hawaii, Australia, and elsewhere. The marketplace appears to currently feature mostly professional charter operators--with pre-set tour plans and captains, although OnBoat.co said it wants to allow owners of boats to to generate income and offset owner expenses, more in line with the Airbnb model. OnBoat was founded by Kevin Wang, Ben Wang, and, Marc Andelman. http://www.socaltech.com/onboat_co_launches_boat_charter_marketplace/s-0066675.html AeroVironment Deploys Drone With U.S. Navy ---- Monrovia-based AeroVironment has deployed its small, Puma AE unmanned aircraft systems with the U.S. Navy, on the USS Stout, the company said on Thursday. According to AeroVironment, the U.S. Navy has tested and deployed its RQ-20B Puma small unmanned aircraft system (AUS) on the USS Stout, which is a guided missle destroyer. The USS Stout is being used in the Arabian gulf. PureSpectrum Gets $1.6M ---- Westlake Village-based PureSpectrum, a startup which operates an online marketplace to help buyers collect survey panels, has raised $1.6M in a funding round, according to the company. The funding came from multiple, un-named strategic partners. The company was founded by Michael McCrary. PureSpectrum is part of the Hub101 startup incubator space in Westlake Village, which is part of the Cal Lutheran University Center for Entrepreneurship. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/index.php?action=showco&id=50573 Cal Net Technology Group Acquires inhouseIT ---- Chatsworth-based Cal Net Technology Group, a provider of IT support services, has acquired Orange County-based b>inhouseIT, according to Cal Net Technology's investors, including Boathouse Capital and Olympic Valley Capital. Cal Net Technology Group had quietly announced the deal to its customers at the end of July. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Cal Net Technology's CEO is James Hwang. OpenMail Gobbles Up Infospace ---- Venice, California-based OpenMail has completed its deal to acquire online search engine site Infospace, from owner Blucora. The deal, which was announced in July, was worth $45M in cash. OpenMail is led by former Demand Media executive Chuck Ursini, and is developing data warehousing products in the marketing analytics and targeting area. Infospace has been around since 1996. Samsung Electronics Buys Dacor ---- Samsung Electronics America, the U.S.-based arm of Samsung Electronics, said late Wednesday that it is acquiring luxury home appliance maker Dacor, which is based in Southern California. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Dacor is based in Industry, California, which encompasses parts of Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. Dacor is a family owned company which was founded in 1965 by Stanley M. Joseph.
