(More...) http://www.socaltech.com/caplinked_launches_new_product/s-0068058.html Intel To Invest $250M In Autonomous Driving ---- Intel announced Tuesday at the LA Auto Show, that it plans to invest more than $250M in new investments over the next two years, to make autonomous driving a reality. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich was the keynote speaker at the LA Auto Show on Tuesday. Intel said it is looking to make investments in technologies that "push the boundaries" in the areas of next generation connectivity, communications, context awareness, deep learning, security, and safety. Cohu Buys Spring Probe Company ---- Poway-based Cohu said late Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire Kita Manufacturing Co LTD, a Japanese companies that develops products used in electronics manufacturing. Cohua said it would pay $15M in cash for Kita, funded out of its cash reserves and through assumption of operating debt of $2.6M net of cash acquired. The company said Kita had current year sales of estimated $17M. Kita designs, manufactures and sells spring probe contacts used in final test contactors, probe cards, PCB test boards and connectors . Western Digital Rolls Out Scale Out Storage ---- Irvine-based Western Digital has rolled out a new data storage product aimed at the scaling out cloud and enterprise market, the company said Tuesday. The company said it has released a new "plug-and-play" object storage system called the ActiveScale P100, intended to scale out capacity to the petabytes. The company said the system can scale from 720TB to 19PB of raw capacity, and is aimed at the life sciences, government/defense, and media and entertainment industry applications. The system starts at $0.22 per gigabyte. Report: Snapchat Files For IPO ---- A report on Tuesday afternoon from Reuters says that Venice, California-based social communications and networking app developer Snapchat has filed its paperwork for its IPO. No terms or details on that IPO have been yet announced by the company, which has been rumored to be working on an IPO for months. http://www.socaltech.com/report_snapchat_files_for_ipo/s-0068056.html Hulu Buys The Video Genome Project ---- Los Angeles-based streaming television provider Hulu has acquired the assets of The Video Genome Project (aka Structured Data Intelligence), a developer of software and data being used to personalize content recommendations for video. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Hulu said it will incorporate The Video Genome Project into its recommendation systems. The Video Genome Project was based in Santa Monica, and founded by Xavier Kochhar. Report: Work On Faraday Future's Factory In Vegas Halted ---- Work by a contractor on Los Angeles-based electric car maker Faraday Future's factory in Las Vegas has been stopped, according to reports on Monday. The work--which was being done by another Los Angeles company, AECOM--has halted because Faraday Future apparently is late on payments to AECOM for the work on what is supposed to be a billion dollar factory for its yet-to-be-unveiled electric car. http://www.socaltech.com/report_work_on_faraday_future_s_factory_in_vegas_halted/s-0068050.html FandangoNOW Extends to Xbox One ---- Los Angeles-based Fandango said today that FandangoNOW, the company's on-demand, premium video service, has launched on the Xbox One and Xbox One S. The company said the available on the Xbox One platform allows consumers to rent or buy more than 40,000 new release and catalog movies and next day TV shows. FandangoNOW is also available on the Web, iOS and Android, various smart TVs from Samsung, LG, and VIZIO, along with others. The service was launched in March 2016, after Fandango acquired premium video-on-demand service M-GO from Technicolor and DreamWorks Animation. Amazon Launches One Hour Restaurant Delivery In Irvine ---- Amazon.com announced Tuesday that it has started offering up free, one-hour delivery from more than 50 restaurants in Irvine, the sixth city in California that Amazon has launched its Prime Now restaurant delivery services.
