iPass?

Here is response from my buddy in developement here at iPass.

"Hi Jerry!

Nice to hear from you and hope this are good for you. Things are good for me!
I'll be seeing you next Thursday at the BBQ in Irvine.

The guy who posted his note has immediately understood what we are trying to
accomplish here. You can definitely tell him that we don't do any port
blocking, etc. The only type of content that is restricted (through terms and
conditions) on the 3G network is video-streaming as it will put people at the
5GB quickly. There are no restrictions on the Wi-Fi network. A couple of
other points you can make regarding that plan...the Wi-Fi in North America
includes about 25,000 locations, including T-Mobile, AT&T, Concourse Airports
and many others. The Wi-Fi only plan can be done month-to-month but the combo
Wi-Fi and 3G service does require a one year contract.

Hope this helps....if they do have questions, they can get more info at
http://www.ipassconnect.com and if they want to send over any questions, I'm
more than happy to answer them!

Cheers...
- Piero"

Subject: [SOCALWUG] The new WiFi/3G combo from iPass- thoughts?

I got this link from Wi-Fi Planet about iPass' new service, where one of
the plans is a $70/mo deal (+ $125 startup for the 3G card) that lets you
use unlimited iPass WiFi, plus 5Gs of 3G data via the Sprint PCS network:

  http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/news/article.php/3737886
  http://www.ipass.com/pressroom/pressroom_releases.html?rid=317

Considering that I spend $30/mo for T-Mobile HotSpot (which appears to
have roam priviledges via iPass) and was about to go bite the bullet for
SPCS EVDOs service at $70/mo non-contract, this, if I'm reading it right,
is a very good deal for me.

There's a 1yr contract and a $100 ETF, which beats the hell outta Sprint's
2Yr/$175 (I just hate committments) equivalent.

Does anyone see any pitfalls with this? Do they filter any ports or
anything (I use SSH and IMAPS/SMTPS almost exclusively). I think it's
the best overall solution for me.

        -Kenny
