Any word?
I only ask 'cause I'm sending this via SPCS EVDO (Rev. A? Can't tell in
Linux, I don't think, but it's running about 2.2M bit/sec!) via a Sierra
Wireless 595U USB card. Now that I know it's working via Linux (and latency
is low enough I can do interactive SSH into one of my clients' machines- I
didn't expect it to be so smooth, and this is even past their VPN), I'm
really interested in the iPass solution (since I have 30 days from today
to decide).
Went to Best Buy to return something, saw they had the SW 595U, went for it.
Once you use Windows to activate the card- and if you call in the ESN on
the drive home (use those hands-frees, kids!) - by the time you plug in
their Sprint SW it'll automatically provision it for you. After that, in
Linux (build the "sierra.ko" kernel module) point your PPPD at it and dial
#777, and you're all set. If the iPass solution needs only that (which
implies you get their MID/MSID/MSL from them) and no funky Windows-only
authorization, then I should be in business via them.
BTW, saw that the unrestricted price (I really don't like contracts!)
for the VZ 595U was $50 less than the SPCS unrestricted price of $300,
so got the guy to price-match the "Circuit City price" (*cough*hint*cough*)
