Exactly. 802.11b does not include mesh technology. So Mesh Networks is not
compatible with 802.11b. So we have proprietary solutions like Mesh
Networks and Karlnet that require specific equipment to work within the
network. Then you are stuck using all their equipment.

If they're all close, then why have the mesh? There is always the issue of
getting the network wire to a remote AP. But there are other ways to do
this with RF (Canopy and Trango for outdoors) without resorting to a
proprietary solution. 

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not against proprietary solutions. I do Cisco
LEAP and PEAP installs, but my clients fully understand that they are not
using a standard and will need to control all the equipment in the WLAN.
