Thanks for your help everyone (on and off-list)! After searching for hours, I found this: http://www.oviesystems.com
"Our Products are wireless alternatives to trenching, pulling wire and running conduit across the street or miles down the road. Wireless phone line, wireless meter pulses, RS232 and RS485 utilizing spread spectrum technology. All products are license free, network capable, and substation hardened -- yet low cost." Check out the neat PDF file: http://www.oviesystems.com/pdf/phonelink_replacement.pdf If it works as advertised, I will try it out next week and update the list on results. -Mike PS: Dan's recommendation to use TCP/IP (my fave) would not work in this case. I am supporting requirements from a public utility - and they won't budge on using a PSTN telephone number to connect. Good solution otherwise!
