As a practitioner, Vader is more reliable. But the commander's (?) statement was self contradictory (is it sorcery or religion?). Religion is not the only thing in the world that involves faith. Heck, it's not even the only type of "believe system". There's magic, there are cults, and there are others (Ying Yang and Confusionism are not magic, or cults, or religions).
And let us not forget "Simple tricks and hockey religions are no match for a good blaster at your side"- Han Solo Episode 4
Spoken by another non-practitioner. Let's stick to what the actual Jedi and Sith say about it. How they describe the force doesn't seem very religous to me (though it does seem like a faith system).
Cheers, Daniel.
