I do know that the staging tree isn't for general development but for preparation for _kernel inclusion_ and you said most drivers need updates for _kernel inclusion_. Sounds like the reason why staging was created, ey?
But it doesn't matter what staging is for or not. You are the man who does the most work and actually submit everything upstream. If you don't like the staging tree, my proposal is obsolete.
