I think that your board is working. Are you sure you are not getting
a signal on the serial port? Remember that, by default, the serial
port speed in a soekris embedded computer is 19200 bps, not 9600 bps.

If you get access to the serial port, you will see what happens.

My net4801 has a CF card and a 80 GB enhanced availability HDD.
I think that, by default, the CF is primary (I think that I changed
both the serial port speed and CF configuration as soon as I received
this unit ten months ago). If your only device is the HDD, you will
probably want to set it as primary (if it is in cable-select mode)
by setting up the CF as secondary in the comBIOS.

My guess is that the CF is primary, as you have not access to the
comBIOS yet. Do you have a CF card installed? If not, you need
access to the comBIOS to set the HDD as primary instead.

You will need to PXE boot the computer to install an operating system.
I am too lazy to maintain a tftp server, so I have a bootable CF on
the soekris were I copy the operating system installation sets and
do a "boot 81" to install the new operating system release.

As I said, first get access to the serial port (19200 8N1 by default,
if I remember right...)

Good luck!
Igor.
