I think that it is a problem with the firmware of the Seagate drive.
As a workaround, you can disable the `write cache' on the HDD; this way
the LED will turn off, I think.  You can look for a new firmware version
for that drive too.

In any case, disabling the `write cache' is a good idea.  ffs has its
own way to assure that the filesystem does not become dirty by means
of writing data in the right order (the drive `write cache' does not
preserve this feature, as it does nothing about the BSD filesystem).
ffs has its own write cache, so performance will not be hurt.
