I disabled write cache in loader.conf and it did give an mayor improvement. The LED still switches on, and stands on for few minutes, and then switches back off. But no way near the 3-4 hours constant "activity". However, I did not compare the LED activity to executed cron jobs, syslogging etc after write cache was disabled.
