I was excited to receive my 5501 on Friday and planned to have a great weekend geeking out setting it up to be a home DMZ server. However, I wound up spending most the weekend trying to get an OS installed on it. I don't give up easily. A positive thing, I learned a lot about PXE booting. Now onto my question.
A have a 5501 (current BIOS) with a 8GB Optima Pro UDMA CF Ultra High Speed 266X I was able to start the install of Debian 4.1 and Ubuntu (6.0.1 and 7.04 server) via PXE and netboot, but it would error out during the base install process step. It would stop at various areas, most often on the extraction part (~60%). I tried this about 10+ times with both standard disk and LVM layouts. What am I doing wrong? If there is a better way to get this installed I would be open to any suggestions. I would prefer to use Debian ports since I am most comfortable using them. I have plenty of other computing equipment and VMware if needed. Any suggestions?
