thanks a lot, Wim. the pix helped a lot.

i think i have something i'm happy with. my main concern initially was
that the only configurations i could make work either (a) too much
metal-to-cable contact or (b) too tight a bend radius that resulted in
too much downward pressure on the connector. either of which i thought
might be a recipe for failure in the future

i ended up being most comfortable with routing the SATA cable to the
outside (open end) of the CF socket. i kind of twisted it to a vertical
configuration and then made it turn to the right and rest vertically
right in front of the MiniPCI Connector. from there i just directed it
to the exit near the 2.5" PATA connector network activity LEDs.

my only remaining concern is that i'm afraid i have too tight a bend
radius to keep the cable away from the PATA connectors which might
rough up or even puncture the cable itself. but then again, this isn't
going in a tank or off-road vehicle---i figure it should be OK, but i
try to always be cognizant of bend radiuses with cables that carry data.

i don't have a camera, but i will take pix in the hope i can help
someone else.

i may also start looking for a more flexible, perhaps rounded SATA cable
with one right-angle connector to see if i can find something that
works...

now, off to get OpenBSD installed...

thanks again,
