I have a net4801 purchased in 03/2007 (and therefore out of warranty)
running ComBios 1.33. I can install operating systems without a
problem onto a flash card or hard disk, but there are problems under
heavy load.

Faults are:-

1. Spontaneous reboots under heavy network load in pfSense (both
FreeBSD 6.x and 7.0 versions).

2. Random GCC failures after several hours of FreeBSD 7.0 "make
buildworld", each time on a different C source file, for example:-

        /usr/src/lib/libc/rpc/getrpcent.c:150: internal compiler error:
Segmentation fault: 11

I've tried several power supplies, including a 12V regulated one rated
at 5 amps max. No peripherals are connected except a 2.5" E7K100 hard
disk or a Sandisk compact flash card.

So, I guess the net4801 board is faulty. But is there anything else
worth trying before I give up? For example, is it worth reverting to
an earlier ComBios release?

Just thought I'd canvas expert opinions here, before assuming the
hardware really is faulty.

Cheers,

- Martin.
