Yes; the QEMU & KVM solutions are particularly useful in emulating
embedded systems, since you can specify what hardware to emulate with
extreme precision, even doing PCI passthrough for hardware devices
they can't emulate. The simplest way to transfer the images to a CF
or other media would be to use raw images ('qemu-img create -f raw' or
'qemu-img convert -O raw'), then simply 'dd' them to the destintation
media.
