s/forces/enables/ It's the much the same but for perspective. Similar to "tragic irony" vs "just deserts". As an apology for indulging in the distraction, I'd like to support one of the first respondents who mentioned PF as a important quality of BSD on Soekris hardware. Personally, it allows me a clearer view of my firewall configuration. I feel more comfortable that my configuration matches my intentions than with IPF IPFW or IPFILTER. It is similar to my view on Sendmail. I switched to Postfix a long time ago because its configuration seemed more sensible. It didn't make things simple but it did allow me to better understand the complexity of dealing with an MTA rather than the complexity of thinking about dealing with an MTA. I'm not an expert so this may just be my brokenness but it's what I have to work with. ZFS is another excellent reason for choosing FreeBSD (in particular) but it has no relevance for me on Soekris' fine hardware. -virgil Truth-in-advertising: I use FreeBSD, OSX, Ubuntu, CentOS & I like rms. _______________________________________________ Soekris-tech mailing list [email protected] http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech
