What errors are you seeing on the console at boot time? When working
with binary images for Soekris boxen on Windows (M0n0wall or flashrd,
for example), I've used physdiskwrite almost exclusively and it works fine-

Thanks! Yes, using that program I can get a bootable image. Now to see if
I can get NTP working.
Still deciding between FreeBSD and Linux. With FreeBSD 8.2 on another PC I
found that it was too old to update, and yet I've heard reports of problems
with FreeBSD 10. Just ordered a couple of 8 GB CF cards so that I can have
the installer and the working OS on one disk, since I couldn't get the
device to boot over USB with a memory stick, or over USB with a CF reader.
A lot to learn still!
