Even if the radio does not have a QSD detector added, with just the 
audio out of the radio fed into a sound card and the many software 
packages available you can improve the reception by making filtering, 
and detection of data types the radio is not capable off. It would 
make the whole experience a lot better.

An old AM shortwave radio would have FM, AM, CW, SSB, and Digital 
mode reception. The only minus is that without I and Q audio you can 
not separate images. That is not a major problem since most of these 
radios have ceramic filters that help in that area.

I fail to see why doing the same thing over and over and getting the 
same results every time is insanity: I've almost proved it isn't; 
only a few more tests now and I'm sure results will differ this time ...
