The only agc action is to generate a fixed audio output for any signal coming
in up to the saturation point of the A/D or noise floor. All the software I
have used does this.
You would need additional computer interface to do anything else. IE: FLEX
SDR changing gain or turning on attenuator pads.

The thing about SDR software is that not all current SDR software has
agc and there is no guarantee that in the future a new software design
will have agc. As a standard item most should however have it. Do not
presume that it all will be the same. Sooner or later there will be an
explosion in software for SDR use from many Ham Radio download sites.
Which is the bigger picture.
I found a Russian site with software for SDR but it is in Russian so
I will wait to see if they come out with an English version.
Many will start off with experimental beta freeware that they will
develop and then Source Forge will jump in the arena and they already
have by having compiled DReaM DRM software for download there. So
there will be those who will be adding things to their versions as they
develop them and we will be beta testing them. So I wonder if they
will start off with their software intially having agc?
Here we are like on the ground floor level and the start up phase of
a new technology. Later on many more will jump on the band wagon of
software design and receiver as well as transceiver design.
Yet as I believe and will continue to, Alberto will be the best in
the field since he is pioneering the better ideas and also the better
looking software. And we know his software has agc. His software has
a very futuristic looking gui. He seems to be smoothing out the rough
edges with each of his versions he runs out of the press. And what he
understands about compiling software and how he innovates it all is way
beyond me. But I am glad I can understand the hardware aspect now
which is the radio part of it. I guess then Alberto is the wizard and
we are but apprentices.
