"The downside is his IF filter will set his maximum bandwidth in
SDRadio or any other SDR software he uses, so he doesn't get to see a
48Khz chunk of spectrum, only the 4-6Khz bandwidth of his IF filter

JR"

On the clock, remember that you can change that frequency so that you
can have a much offset as you want. The division of this circuit is 8x
so that can help you modify it. I'll see what other clocks there is to
be bought, that are close to this frequency and also check to see what
crystals I can find also.

The clock frequency comes from the DRM Convertor on which the idea of
this circuit is based. I am thinking perhaps to explore a tv color
burst crystal such as someone did here at soft_radio awhile back for
455 kHz with Soft Rock 40. Crystals can be pulled and hence tuned +/-
a little so that makes things more possible if an ideal crystal is on
the market we can now use.

The SA602A and SA612A are recommended by the USB Radio Receiver
builders for their low IMD, so I guess we need to follow them in what
they use. The toroid core is the small Amidon "red" mix types for HF
such as Tony Parks uses in Soft Rock 40. I need to experiment with the
core to see what the match will be between IC1 and the SA612A's. But I
figure you folk can match it up also as you build it. I'll get some
actual operating data on this idea here coming up soon, hopefully.

{I am using a CIAO H101 receiver here and I am accustomed to it
showing me a 48 KHz wide band on the spectrum display. That receiver
has a tunable DDS output (0 to 60 Mhz) that one can use in testing a
new QSD idea when you want; without having to have a specific clock on
hand.}

P.S. About using other software with SDR!

I downloaded SDRadio 1.0 and it is even smoother than before. So far
I have discovered no glitches on Win 98 at 680 MHz. Alberto always
makes it better and soon a new Winrad software will be ready.

I have been using Ham Scope in conjunction with the SDR software I
have; and running it off the same sound card that operates my SDR
software (that operates my USB radio receiver). I can also use weather
fax software along with the SDR software. So thats cool, to copy BPSK
or CW via digital software running on the SDR software sound card
output (on the same PC at the same time). I have to try SSTV now and
see how it will work since weather fax works ok and is similar though
it is a 30 frame per second video format rather than fax.

As long as the digital modes Ham software uses the "Wave Mix Output"
as one of its audio input selections, then you can run the Ham software
at the same time off of the SDR software output via the same sound
card. SDZero features Winrad running SSTV in this manner.

I can not vouch for all sound cards however, I am using Sound Max.

DRM won't work unless I use a 48,000 Hz sound card sampling rate.
And then it works well, using Virtual Audio Cable 3.06 as an audio
patch cable to my sound card to give me an extra sound card output.
Virtual Audio Cable will come in handy with all of your Ham and SDR
software to give you a patch cable option on your sound card. When you
have no available sound card inputs or outputs Virtual Audio Cable
creats one for you.

Example; Winrad's output can be set to Virtual Cable 1 and then a
software such as DRM is set to Input: Virtual Cable 1, Output: PC Sound
Card and this keeps the sound card free to output the audio from DRM
instead of Winrad where Winrad is the demodulator.

Virtual Cable then routes the output of Winrad to DRM and then DRM
goes to the sound card output. See? It is very important to have!
You may use the unregistered version with only one cable working but it
is capable of many more patch cables if registered. One working cable
will however go a long ways in SDR.
