Yes, this is the Smith I've read through.  I purchased the book as I like to
read in lots of places.  I have a pretty good 'book learning' understanding
of the issues but book learning and practical experience are often quite
different!

There's much to experience when one has limited resources and that, of
course, is part of the challenge!

He has a good chapter on filters ... looks as if he teaches "Hilbert" 
without saying Hilbert
unlike the fft a search on "hilbert" on the web yields nothing of use ?? 
(maybe I didn't use the right search terms) ... I think you take the 
impulse response (Smith calls it the "Filter kernal") and use them for 
the Hilbert coefficients
I am sort of vague on this ... it has been a couple of years since I 
needed to build a filter
