Hi Alan, Stick to hand soldering!
I am sure a few have perfected the technique, but only after a lot of experimenting and disasters. For one off projects at home, it's certainly not worth the messing around, let alone the cost involved of getting fresh solder paste every few months. Hand soldering, using leaded solder is by far the cheapest, quickest and most reliable method of SMD construction for amateurs at home. There are very few device packages that cannot be hand soldered easily, for those you just need to tin the PCB pads, wick off the excess with solder braid, clean off the flux with IPA, then heat with hot air and place the component, and keep heating until properly soldered. Successfully replaced a few large BGA devices like that recently at work. 73, Bob G8VOI --- In [email protected], "Alan" <alan4a...@...> wrote: > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Gian" > Subject: [soft_radio] Re: LD-1 Discussion on Garage-shoppe.com Blog > > > > > >I know it may sounds or looks strange, but I have been assembling "ugly" > >style circuits using all or most SMD components, active and passive.
