I agree on all points Mass, but seriously every softimage user could switch tomorrow to blender, and i doubt it would make much of an impact to AD. maya has the industry in a head lock, companies are contented to pay for the right to rent maya, its gotten to the point where they don't even need to develop new additions or upgrades each year, in fact i know a fair few people who would be content paying AD not to change anything from version to version as each release is usually a nightmare of shoddy bugs regression and performance drops. meanwhile AD lazily Vacuums up all the third party stuff and repackages it as new features.
