Well, design, archviz and games are quite different areas, but in general: Design: Rhinoceros, very very easy to use and to create some amazing stuff
Games: In recent years lots of studios have been using (thanks/because/being forced from ) Autodesk Maya and I have to say, at least now I'm scripting more then in Softimage, which can be viewed as a good or bad thing... ArchViz: Whatever DCC allows you to input parametric dimensions. As far as I know no game engines import Vray materials 1:1 and some of them have a builtin function of poly reduction, but 99% of the time you need to create two separate sets of UVs ( one for the lightmap, the other one for color texture ) and re-create all the materials ( nowdays all engine use a physically based material editor) inside UE4. Don't really know about 2d design 2016-01-08 13:07 GMT+01:00 Sebastien Sterling <[email protected]> : > Hey list I have a friend who is looking to get into design, games, ark > viz... > > What would be the standard these days, the best things to learn in this > regard ? 3D and 2d design > > He has a background in design, has used solid works, however I think > there may be better option for generating quick previz. > > Do let us know what you think > > No wrong answears . >
