AFAIK those options are to change the selection range, like a bounding box.
The problem here is that when you click select with move tool (translate tool) and don't do it with a perfect single click, but drag it just a little, you'll end up moving your object. This is specially annoying when using a pen tablet. Never found a solution for this. I've just got used to change to selection tool or drag-select like rectangle selection all the time.
