Funny, As I'm about to reply with nothing but praise for houdini, my 
houdini crashed.
Cool thing is: it saved a backup as it crashed, and I lost nothing.
I was being silly though. I was modelling while the redshift ipr was 
rendering.
So yes, I'd say it is stable :)
