Animators generally don't need 4K monitors as they mostly work in wireframe or shaded mode only care about broad details such as feet penetrating the floor. Details like that are clearly visible even on 1080p monitors. Even if they aren't, primitive rig devices can be set up to make it obvious, such as putting a colored plane where penetration may occur, or applying an expression to raise a flag. Just examples.
Artists working with color and lighting, on the other hand, may need 4K monitors.
