Hi

I'm running XP and SDRadios on computer sometime equipped with 3 (three !)
different soundcards : the "on board" embedded one, an M-Audio (PCI,
internal) and a FA-66 (firewire external). The running input or output is
selected by the software (the settings of rocky and others), and conflicts
with the "windows default device" are solved with the "audio section" of the
control panel. I never had any driver's conflicts or troubles with this kind
of config (excepted when I'm looking for the right plug... I almost
dismantled a Softrock, looking for a dead op amp, just because... the output
was plugged in the wrong jack).

Depending on the software you are using, it could sometime be useful to use
two different soundcards (the internal for the microphone, if you are doing
ssb, the "high end" soundcard for I/Q decoding).
