Dear List People....

The light is dawning the more I read about SDR. The Si570 seems to have been a
great innovation for SDR type radios since the device can be programmed to fit
the desired frequency. I do have some questions.....

What is being done to program the Si570 now for various bands? I know that
there is some people doing this already, but the information is hard to find.

It seems the new version and its PIC controller has taken into account band
changes including upper and lower band edges, but forsake the middle of the
band. Is there software to "tweak" that issue (I am not a programmer, but I do
use programs).

I am interested in getting an RX for not only the ham bands, but General
Coverage as well. That would mean tweaking the Si570. Is anyone out there
doing that now?

I have read a lot about sound cards. I see a lot of information for various
bandwidths. What is the sound card standard? Now, I do not want to invest in
a 300 dollar card, but I want to know what is the best bang for the buck.

The light keeps getting brighter as I read the technical papers concerning SDR.
Not bad for a Liberal Arts major.

Could someone comment on the Si570?

In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't
have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find
any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense. Is
Common Sense divine?
