I'll tell you my expirience.
I use a mofified for multiband operation Softrock RxTx 6.2, with the
addition of an Si570.
The program of my choice is PowerSDR-SR40 from Guido PE1NNZ.
It can control the Si570 via two lines from the LPT port and have a
range from 160m through 6m. 
Results are more than what I was expecting.
