Sorry for the delay in response and thanks for the reply - I have tried both
settings and neither helps. My other U5 seems quite happy with it set to
'true' for some reason!

Any chance that ttya-ignore-cd is set to true in the eeprom?  That could
cause it to hang on a serial boot...
