Machar asks for the international community to help reconcile warring
communities
Thursday, 12 January 2012 10:25 South Sudan >>> .The Vice President
of the Republic of South Sudan, Riek Machar, has called on the
international organizations working in the new nation to help
reconcile the warring communities in the trouble Jonglei State.

This stems from the unending inter-communal clashes mainly between the
Lou Nuer and the Murle youth in Jonglei State since August 2011.

Machar made the appeal while addressing representatives from over 30
countries from Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Middle East in a
dialogue in India.

The dialogue that started on 8th ends on 12th January 2011 and focuses
on making democracy a reality as well as reconciling warring
communities.

Machar said South Sudan is developing better ways of promoting
democracy and good governance, including the constitution making
process and decentralization of governance.

At the moment, South Sudan is operating with a transitional
constitution that has been in place since independence on July 9th.

However, President Salva Kiir Mayardit recently issued a decree to
officially form the National Constitutional Review Committee whose
sole responsibility will be to formulate the permanent constitution
for the new nation.
