TORIT, 12th January 2012 [Gurtong] – Kapoeta North, one of the 8
Counties in Eastern Equatoria State (EES), is constructing a modern
livestock marketing centre in Riwoto, the County Headquarters.

The County Commissioner, Mr. Lokai Iko Loteyo explained to Gurtong
that the Food and Agricultural Research Management (FARM) -Africa, an
international organization currently based in Greater Kapoeta, funded
the construction worth over SSP 30,000 that enabled the County
authority to contract Land Mark Limited Construction Company to
undertake the construction work.

Lokai told Gurtong that the facility’s main objective is to help the
County to generate income through cattle marketing; targeting various
livestock traders. The traders are expected to use the facility on
hire basis by paying required market fees to the County authorities.

The construction company’s manager, Mr. Paul Oleyo revealed that the
actual construction of the main building and the main fence is already
complete except three key components such as loading facility,
borehole and slaughter house.

He added that the entire work would have ended early this month but
due to the unexpected financial delays and some logistical
arrangements the project will delay. However, Oleyo expressed his
confidence that the construction be complete soon.

He confirmed that they had already constructed the finance; clerk and
book keeper offices and the rate collector’s workplace to enable them
operate effectively.

The Commissioner disclosed that brokers who usually evade paying for
livestock marketing taxes and are fond of sneaking with their animals
after buying them from locals within the County, to Torit via Kapoeta
South County in order to double the selling prices, shall now find it
hard to dodge the rate collection officials since strategic measures
have been put in place to control them.
