County Court has sentenced Zachariah Pouric, a member of the State
Legislative Assembly, to a two-year imprisonment over adultery and
child abduction.

The case of child abduction was filed against Pouric by the relatives
of the child in question. Last week, the Speaker of the State Assembly
lifted Pouric's immunity to allow him answer to the child abduction
charges against him.

Pouric however, earlier told Radio Miraya from the police station
where he was detained that the child in question is his own biological
child.

The judge on Monday pronounced Pouric guilty of committing adultery
and child abduction. In addition to the two year sentence, he was
ordered to pay SSP1000 bail and a penalty of seven cows for adultery.

The court has also handed over the three children Pouric claimed were
his, to the husband of the woman with whom he used to cohabitate.
