Sudan, South Sudan to soon start negotiations – NCP

Akhir Lahza Khartoum, 21/05/12 – Sudan’s ruling National Congress
Party (NCP) maintain s that any resumption of talks with South Sudan
should start with talks on the security arrangements.
“The talks would soon resume,” he said without elaborating but added
that the security talks should start before any talks on the oil
issue, NCP spokesperson Badreldeen Ahmed told the press in Khartoum
yesterday following a meeting of the party’s politburo.
Commenting on recent remarks attributed to South Sudan President Salva
Kiir in which he reportedly said South Sudan was in the frontlines of
battling the spread of Islam into Africa, the NCP spokesperson said
that those statements were a means to gain the sympathies of the
non-Muslim world and instil fear of Islam.
He criticised the US for “impressing upon some governments not to host
Sudanese President Al-Bashir” pointing out that Malawi’s Joyce Banda
was granted a “large financial package from the World Bank barely 48
hours after refusing to host Al-Bashir.”
