Deputy UN Secretary General Asha-Rose Mtengeti Migiro has urged South
Sudan and Sudan to make immediate compromises on key issues in order
to meet the timelines set in the AU Peace and Security Council Road
Map and UN Security Council Resolution 2046.

The deputy UN Chief made the appeal on Saturday while addressing the
AU Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Mtengeti said if the two countries agree on the safe demilitarized
border zone that will operationalize the Joint Border Verification and
Monitoring Mechanism, they can be able to finalize other remaining
issues and reduce tension.

However, she said the Governments of Sudan and South Sudan are
restraining their respective forces along the border to maintain
relative calm.

According to Mtengeti, the gesture of restraining the respective
forces shows the two countries have faith in the Addis Ababa talks.
