National Parliament rejects Kiir's provisional orders
Tuesday, 17 July 2012 08:41 Mabior Mach South Sudan >>> . The South Sudan national parliament on Tuesday has rejected a provisional order that President Salva Kiir issued in June, on petroleum revenue management. The legislators said the order, which was presented by Justice Minister John Luk Jok, was ambiguous. The MPs disagreed with a clause that names local government councils as the sole authorities to manage three percent oil revenue that would go to oil producing areas. The MPs instead asked John Luk to table a full bill for close scrutiny and debate before its passage into law. The provisional order on petroleum revenue management is one of the ten orders that President Salva Kiir issued, while MPs were on recess. Two other provisional orders were passed, notably the establishment of a legal training institute to train lawyers and the order on Geneva Conventions, which deals with protection of civilians during armed conflict. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
