Lakes State Speaker Says His Removal Was Unconstitutional Lawmakers in Lakes state parliament have protested against the appointment of Dhieu Wal Takping as the new Speaker replacing Baipath Majuec Rilpuou who was sacked by the Caretaker Governor. 23 June 2015
By Gabriel Mayom *RUMBEK, June 22, 2015 [Gurtong]-*The removal of Mr Baipath Majuech followed calls by a section of MPs calling for his resignation. Baipath was accused by the Caretaker Governor of poor management, which he has denied. The MPs say that according to the constitution only the August house has the authority to remove the Speaker and not the Governor. Baipath Majuec Rilpupu said that his removal from office did not follow due process and will remain in office as the legal Speaker of Lakes State parliament. “They did not follow the assembly procedures. The branches of the government are three: the executive, legislature, and the judiciary. Each of them is independent and has connections. Now, to bypass all these things, it means that we are teaching our generation that is coming behind not to respect laws.” The Governor, in a gubernatorial decree, cited Article 199 and Article 155 of the state transitional constitution as the basis upon which he removed the Speaker.
