A simple and obvious solution is to set LIBTOOL=/usr/bin/libtool on OpenBSD, which 1. does not have the very bug that's causing the problem 2. is native to the platform Don't you find it cleaner and more maintainable than the current "patch" to the broken GNU libtool?
