I had this same problem when trying to get my project to run on windows. It sounds rather like over-amplification. I ended up working around it by using the pygame sound api.

It works with Pygame ? Pygame uses SDL itself, but maybe in a more intelligent
way...

Well, I'm thinking to a "soya.pygame_sound4soya" module...

It would be "strange" to make pygame become a dependency of Soya only to use its sound part. Another thing is that pysdl_mixer emulates 3D sound. Is it a feature of pygame?

OpenAL is to me the best choice to play sounds with Soya. I think that Windows user should focus on the way to make PyOpenAL really cross-platform, instead of using third-party sound libraries : a complete rewrite of PyOpenAL with Pyrex could be the solution. Any volunteer?
