Lorin walked in, nodded to Kitanya, and sat in a seat near her.

"Admiral. Good morning." he said to Kitanya.

 >Upon arrival people were taking their seats as a lonely ensign was passing
 >out materials for the briefing. The screen was still showing the Starfleet
 >logo. A moment later the image blinked and the face of an attractive man
 >appeared. The mad was the mad of the hour, Captain Black.

Lorin wasn't overly thrilled but kept silent-it was too early to spar verbally.

 >"Good morning everyone. I am so sorry to call you together at this crazy
 >hour. I have some very important news to relay to all of you, and a plan to
 >introduce......" the man said calling the meeting to order...

 >"Let me start by making introductions and summing up the situation
 >for those new to the briefing. I am Captain John Cook Black, the assistant
 >director of the multi-jurisdictional task force here on the frontier in
 >sectors 625 and 626. this task force is made up of Starfleet, local law
 >enforcement, Federation Marshalls, Federation Border Patrol (aka coast
 >guard). I was hoping that our director would be here today, but as I was
 >told late yesterday that she is stepping down. I am sure that the new task
 >force commander will take on these briefings, but until one is named I am
 >supposed to take on the role of acting task force commander as of 1800 hours
 >tomorrow.

Lorin raised an eyebrow....critical time and a commander steps down...hmmm...

 >Now the situation, in review is like this. Approximately 17 months
 >ago a series of pirate raids were executed out in these two sectors. These
 >raids were far more coordinated that what normally would come from a pirate
 >organization. Starfleet became involved in a supportive role when a pair
 >Border Patrol frigates were attacked and destroyed. Due to our involvement
 >and cooperation with the other groups involved we have learned that the
 >pirates are led by a new race, a feline-oid race. From what we have
 >gathered from wreckage from one of their ships and from a base camp they are
 >highly advanced, most likely equal to slightly more so than we are. They
 >use some form of dimensional propulsion system to open a rift and pass
 >through from their space to ours. We do know the extent of their
 >infiltration, nor do we know exactly what they are after. However, we do
 >know that they are spreading in their influence. Neighboring sectors are
 >starting to have the same problems as these two. Our operations have only
 >begun to include those additional sectors.

 >That is my brief sum up to this point. Are there any questions
 >before we continue...?" he said in a professional, yet charming tone.

 >"Arrre we surrre this is a new rrrace, Captain?" asked Kitanya. "It has
been many yearrrs since we last hearrrd >frrrom the Kzinti. Could this be
new technology frrrom an old enemy?" Felinoid races were extremely rare.
 >Caitians and Kzinti were the only two Kit knew of, and Caitians were
actually offshoots of the much older Kzinti >race.

 >"We are not 100% sure about that, Admiral. Our analysis has not ruled
them out 100%. I will most definitely >press harder there." came the reply.

 >"Admiral, I do wish that I could provide a better answer than that,
 >but as of yet the only thing that we were able to truely get on them is a
 >few video images, and accounts from those beings that we have captured that
 >were working with them." Black added.

 >"I suppose we move on to the good stuff. What we have learned since
 >our last meeting. The team of engineers that we have working on this
 >project from the USS Stargazer, while she under goes major refit, from other
 >SF sources, and from the border patrol, we have been analyzing sample of
 >their captured technology. It appears as if the aliens are making some kind
 >of portal. Our engineering team theorizes that this dimensional/subspace
 >rift that they use for faster than light transport must have a portal at
 >both ends to keep the opening stable. I will get into the why in a moment.
 >Also, with the cooperative efforts of many, we have deciphered some of their
 >language from their communications. It is from our analysis of their
 >tactics, technology, and from the communications that it appears as if they
 >plan on invading our space. This has been recently confirmed by one of the
 >intell field operatives here, code named Hunter, who also feels that they
 >are attempting to destabilize this area prior to a full blown invasion. In
 >order to make securing a foot hold much easier. From Hunter's reports we
 >think that these beings are highly organized, highly intelligent, and highly
 >militaristic. From first hand accounts they deal out punishment in the
 >form of a hunt. Where the condemned are only spared if they can make it to a
 >given point before they are hunted down and slaughtered like game.

Lorin didn't like this one bit...

 >Based on this information, I would like Starfleet's permission to propose to
 >the Task Force that a small squadron of ships be sent to where they come
 >from. The purpose being to learn as much about them as possible about their
 >society, arms, technology, and plans. " Black stopped to allow questions at
 >this point.

Lorin stood up, "Captain Black...Admiral Renaud. Is there a way for Senior
Staff to obtain copies of these video images in order to allow us to watch
for any possible underlying infiltration we may already have? If this group
is on the `hunt' per se, we need to make our Security staffs aware of their
presence now rather than later?"
