"Seriously, sending them to Black may be an idea worth considering. At
least for those that are capable of being saved. If they don't shape up, I
am sure that I can find something for them until their tour runs out. At
that point, they are gone. We don't have to offer them the oppertunity to
sign up again. The other benefit is that if Black can't do a darned thing
with them, I am sure that Captain Polath can feed them to his targs...."
"I doubt he would sully his tarrrgs' honorrr that way," she sighed. "He'd
just shoot them. Well, it sounds like a good plan. Tomorrrrow we'll go
overrr the prrrofiles of the ones I rrreplaced this morrrning and see who we
think arrre a waste of space and who just got lazy and can be
rrrehabilitated."
"Yes, sir."
"Any otherrr ideas? I must say, I haven't had a good XO since I left
Trrriangle, so it is a pleasurrre to have one finally."
"Well, as a matter of fact, I do. There are some officers that I have
been watching for a while now. They do not have the experience that a
normal team leader has, but they have shown some damned fine instinct. Even
better is how they walk the fine line between the normal insane risks that
Spec Ops folk are trained to take, and just plain stupidity. Sure, they are
a bit under ripe, and sure they may take too many risks. However, they have
that special.... that special somethign that you don't see in those that
were not meant to do great things. I think we should do something bold to
hone their skills, to make leaders out of them. They are mostly JGs and
other yound Lt's, but I think they could be great if they had the right
motivation. Perhaps a few weeks of high intensity leadership training. We
could increase our number of team leaders by a good 20 to 30 in a matter of
a few weeks. Just what the doftor ordered for those new operatives we will
be getting in that amount of time. All we need is a good soul to train
these diamonds in the rough."
